Managing dependants in your Member Centre

  • Updated

What it's all about?

A great part of your benefits is the ability to add dependants to your Plan. This allows you to share in the support that they provide!

The type of dependants you can add will vary based on the specific plan you have.

For details on HSA dependants, make your way over to Understanding qualified dependants for Health Spending Accounts.

Let’s dive into adding and deactivating your dependants!

What you'll need

  • A little background on dates and dependants
  • Your Member Centre login credentials
  • Your dependant’s details like date of birth or any supporting documentation

Dates and dependants

When adding your eligible dependants to your account, you’ll be asked to add something called an ‘effective date’.  ‘Effective date’ is just a fancy way of saying the date that your benefits started. When adding your dependants, you’ll add the date based on a few scenarios.

If your dependant pre-dates the start of your Plan (you were already married to them, had hit 12 months of cohabitation, or they were already born), their effective date would be the same as your Plan start date.

If your dependant was born after the start date, or you were married or hit the 12 months of cohabitation after the start date, the date those milestones occurred would be the effective date.

How you'll do it

Adding a dependant

1. From your Member Centre dashboard, click on the Benefits menu at the top of the page, and then click on Dependants.

2. You’ll see a button that says +Add dependant. Click on that button.

3. The Add Dependant page will open up. You’ll be able to add your dependants information, including the effective date discussed above. Once all of the information is filled in, click on the Add button. Now you’re all set to go.

Deactivating a dependant

  1. Follow Step 1 from above.
  2. From your list of dependants, select the dependant you want to deactivate.
  3. Click the Deactivate button.

Next steps

Once your dependants are all setup, you’ll be all good to go to submit claims on their behalf.

If you’ve deactivated a dependant, they’ll no longer be qualified for reimbursement of eligible claims.
