Unfortunately, purely cosmetic expenses of any kind aren’t eligible for reimbursement through an HSA, per CRA guidelines.
That includes cosmetic surgery, cosmetic Dental expenses (such as veneers or tooth whitening), and drugs for purely cosmetic uses.
Claiming for something that’s considered cosmetic that’s not for a cosmetic reason?
If it’s for medical or reconstructive purposes - such as surgery to address a deformity related to a congenital abnormality, a personal injury resulting from an accident or trauma, or a disfiguring disease - it’s likely eligible!
We’ll require supporting documentation (such as a prescription or doctor’s note) to be submitted with the claim, showing that the expense isn’t for cosmetic reasons.
